Essential Beliefs
Christians, throughout the ages, have held a wide variety of beliefs, and have often differed in their personal theology. FCOG strives to center our beliefs on Jesus Christ and His teachings.
We will focus our teaching on the non-debatable principles of Scripture while leaving freedom for personal convictions related to non-essential doctrinal issues. Our highest desire is to live in light of biblical principle while remaining united in our commonality in Christ. With that said, here are our beliefs regarding

ABOUT THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority on all matters of faith.
(2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12-13; Romans 15:4)
(2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12-13; Romans 15:4)
ABOUT GOD
We believe in one God who created all things and who exists in three persons (Trinity): Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-28: Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9-10)
(Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-28: Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9-10)
ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was resurrected from death, and ascended to heaven where he sits at the Father’s right hand. We believe that Jesus will come again to claim his bride, the Church. (John 3:16; Matthew 1:18; Romans 5:6-11; John 20:24-31)
ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within all believers, empowering our lives with his presence and power to live a godly life and accomplish God’s will.
(John 16:5-15; Romans 8:10-11; 1 Cor. 3:16)
(John 16:5-15; Romans 8:10-11; 1 Cor. 3:16)
ABOUT SIN
We believe that mankind has willfully sinned against God and is therefore lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ.
(Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:7; Acts 4:12)
(Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:7; Acts 4:12)
ABOUT DEATH
We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. The saved will inherit eternal life whereas the unsaved will be eternally separated from God.
(Romans 8:9-14; Daniel 12:2; John 6:47)
(Romans 8:9-14; Daniel 12:2; John 6:47)
ABOUT SALVATION
We believe that salvation is God’s gift of grace to all who believe. This grace comes by faith in Jesus Christ, His death on the cross and His subsequent Resurrection from the dead.
(Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:8-11; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9)
(Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:8-11; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9)
ABOUT RECEIVING CHRIST
We believe the Biblical pattern for receiving Christ includes acknowledging that Jesus Christ is God’s Son,
repenting from personal sin, and inviting Christ to be Lord of your life.
(1 John 1:8-9; Romans 6:1-7)
repenting from personal sin, and inviting Christ to be Lord of your life.
(1 John 1:8-9; Romans 6:1-7)
ABOUT THE CHURCH
We believe that the church is the body and bride of Christ and consists of Christians everywhere.
(Matthew 16:13-18; Acts 2:14-47)
(Matthew 16:13-18; Acts 2:14-47)
ABOUT BAPTISM, COMMUNION & BABY DEDICATIONS
We believe in water baptism by immersion for persons who have accepted Christ as their Savior.
We practice regular observance of communion as a means of remembering Christ’s sacrifice and death on the cross.
We perform child dedications to acknowledge the parents’ desire to raise their child in the ways and instruction of the Lord.
(Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Proverbs 22:6)
